Project Believe seeks assistance

Staff report

TIPP CITY — “Magic happens when communities come together and care,” is one of the core values adopted by Project Believe after watching the power of kindness in action throughout the community. Based in Tipp City, Project Believe is a nonprofit organization supporting youth who have been orphaned through mental, emotional, and behavioral challenges. Most are in the foster care system and living alone in group homes, hospitals, and residential treatment centers with little outside support and very few personal belongings. Project Believe makes it their mission to remind these young people they are not alone by providing some of the comforts of home.

What started with a few Christmas gifts for 10 children in 2007, has grown to include over 200 youth at seven facilities in two states, and year-round support programs, just by word of mouth and social media. The outpouring of support within our area has been amazing. Five people gathered to wrap presents in 2008, and this year more than 200 people are expected to show up to volunteer at the annual Project Believe Wrap Party, where thousands of gifts will be wrapped in just a few hours. Plan to attend this free, festive, family-friendly event on Thursday, Dec. 10th, at 6 p.m. at Broadway Elementary School in Tipp City, at 223 W. Broadway Street.

This is your opportunity to be part of the magic leading up to the Wrap Party. Now through Dec. 6, Project Believe is accepting donations from the list below. Items must be new and can be brought to Dolly Packaging at 320 N. 4th Street in Tipp City, during business hours, or from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. After hours donation drop-off day and times this week will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday and noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday this week.

Monetary donations are welcome in the form of checks made payable to Project Believe and mailed to P.O. Box 626, Tipp City, OH 45371. Project Believe is a fund of the Tipp Foundation, making all donations tax-deductible.

There are approximately 65,000 youth in America living under the same circumstances. For more information: www.project-believe.net or www.facebook.com/projectbelieve.
